Sweaters! They’re cosy, classic and somehow feel like a warm hug in clothing form... but have you ever stopped to think about where they came from, or why they never go out of style? We thought we’d take a moment to celebrate the humble sweater - and show you why it’s such a big part of every Me & Henry season.

Let’s start way back… Knitting actually goes back hundreds of years, long before fancy knitting machines or even patterns! The earliest examples are thought to come from the Middle East, where skilled makers created intricate socks and mittens that eventually made their way to Europe through trade routes. By the 14th century, knitting had become a respected craft in Spain and Britain, often done by men, yes, really, who formed knitting guilds to protect their trade.

And, in true British fashion, it didn’t take long for knitting to become woven (pardon the pun) into everyday life. Fishermen on the coasts of Scotland and Ireland relied on thick woollen jumpers, known as ganseys, to keep them warm at sea. Each fishing village had its own unique stitch pattern, a kind of local signature. Some families even used those patterns to identify their men if tragedy struck at sea, a sobering but fascinating bit of history!

Then, along came Queen Elizabeth I, who adored finely knitted stockings and helped turn knitting into a luxury craft. It was around her time that the first knitting machine was invented, paving the way for mass production, but the love of handknit pieces never disappeared.

Fast forward a few centuries and knitting became a staple of wartime Britain - think grandmothers and children sitting by the fire knitting socks and scarves for soldiers overseas. It wasn’t just a hobby; it was an act of love.

And that’s really what knitting has always been about: warmth, comfort and care, one stitch at a time.

At Me & Henry, our sweaters are designed with that same mix of tradition and comfort, just updated for modern little boys who love to explore. From soft cotton-blend sweaters perfect for layering, to knit cardigans that look adorable on babies and cool on big boys, every piece is made to be worn, loved, and handed down.

It’s one of those things we always come back to each season, the feeling of pulling on a soft sweater on a crisp Fall morning, heading out for a walk or just snuggling in at home.

Why do we love them so much?
Because they’re timeless.
Because they’re practical.
Because every little boy looks effortlessly handsome in a classic knit.

And maybe, just maybe, because they remind us of simpler times... when things were made to last, and a jumper meant warmth, love and a bit of character.

So this season, whether it’s a striped crew neck, a button-up cardigan or one of our new textured sweaters - make sure there’s room in the closet for at least one Me & Henry sweater.

Trust us, they never go out of style.
