ボクシングデー？何？ 弊社のお客様のほとんどがアメリカ人であることは承知していますので、アメリカ人が祝わないいくつかの祝日を私たちは祝っています。その中でも特に知っておいていただきたいのが、12 月 26 日のボクシング デーです。 まず、ボクシングというスポーツとは何の関係もありませんが、クリスマスにまつわるほとんどの伝統と同様に、ビクトリア朝時代に根付いており、1800年代にはイギリスで非常に重要な日となり、国民の祝日となりました。 実際の名前は、ビクトリア女王の在位時代に、上流階級の家庭ではその年の奉仕に対する感謝の気持ちとして使用人に「クリスマス ボックス」を贈っていたことに由来しています。 通常、クリスマス当日は使用人が必要だったため、これらの箱は翌日、使用人に仕事を休んで家に帰り、家族とクリスマスの箱を分かち合うことが許されたときに渡されました。 しかし、実際に過去を振り返ってみると、この言葉ははるか昔に遡り、1743年にオックスフォード英語辞典に初めて記載されています。 12 月 26 日は宗教的なつながりもあり、たとえばアイルランドやスペインでは聖ステファンの日と呼ばれています。ドイツ、ポーランド、ハンガリー、オランダなどのヨーロッパの国では、2...
